The Hype Score is a transparent metric, ranging from 0 to 100, designed to measure the real-time buzz and momentum of a stock. In today's market, social media chatter and retail investor interest can be powerful drivers of short-term price movements. The Hype Score is our way of quantifying that excitement.
It's a single, easy-to-understand number that aggregates several key data points into one simple score. A higher score indicates that a stock is currently experiencing a significant level of attention and unusual market activity.
How is the Hype Score Calculated?
The Hype Score is a weighted average of several factors, with the final score capped at 100. The contribution of each factor is based on the following logic:
Volume Spike (30% Weight): Measures the increase in today's trading volume compared to its recent average. A significant spike contributes more to the score, highlighting stocks with unusually high activity.
Price Change (20% Weight): Strong positive price movement from the day's open adds to the score, rewarding stocks that are already demonstrating upward momentum.
Social Mentions (15% Weight): This factor's contribution is based on the logarithm of the total mentions on various social media platforms. This means that while more mentions increase the score, the impact of each additional mention diminishes, preventing extremely high-mention stocks from dominating the score.
Sentiment (10% Weight): The overall positive or negative tone of social media conversations. A strongly positive sentiment provides a significant boost to the score.
Intraday Bonuses: Additional "bonus" points are awarded for exceptional intraday activity, such as extreme volume spikes, hitting a new high-of-day, or achieving a massive number of social mentions.
